Uploading

Click Upload Files. On a computer the upload form opens in its own window, so allow pop-ups if asked. Keep that window open until the upload finishes.

  1. Drag files into the window or browse to select them.
  2. Add Keywords: words, #tags or @mentions. Press Enter or a comma after each.
  3. Choose who can see the files under Visible to or Asset Visibility. Depending on your role, you pick one or more of your groups, or any @mentions, including @all. If you belong to only one group, it's chosen for you.
  4. Fill in any fields marked with an asterisk (*); your organization requires them.
  5. Click Start upload.

All files in one upload are grouped in the same Session, which you can browse later with Same Session in the viewer. After an upload, click Start New Session to begin another. The form shows how many files completed, were replaced as a new version, were already in your library, or failed. Files already in the library aren't added twice.
The form tells you whether your uploads are approved automatically or wait for approval. Whether you can change the audience after uploading depends on your role.

Large files

Picsha supports very large files, including multi-gigabyte video. If your sign-in session ends during a long upload, the upload pauses; sign in again in the main Picsha window and it continues.

Drag and drop

You can also drag files straight onto the library page. They start uploading immediately with your default audience (or into the album you have open), and a progress bar runs along the top of the page. Drag and drop isn't available when your organization requires fields at upload; use Upload Files instead.
Supported formats include JPG, PNG, GIF, HEIC, TIFF, camera raw files, MOV, MP4, PDF and Word documents.

InDesign files

Picsha DAM shows InDesign (.indd) files using the page previews InDesign saves inside the file. By default InDesign saves only a small preview of the first page, so a file saved that way shows one small page. To show every page at full preview quality, set these options in InDesign under Preferences → File Handling before saving:

  • Always Save Preview Images with Documents: on
  • Pages: All Pages
  • Preview Size: Extra Large (1024 x 1024)

The options apply to files saved after you change them. To update a file that's already in Picsha, open it in InDesign, save it, and upload it with Upload new version… on the Versions tab. A file saved with previews turned off shows no preview.
